This paper examines how internet-based media might be used to advance different nonproliferation and arms control strategies. In the case of socially-networked publics, the paper argues that they could perform a number of useful activities, including the monitoring and verification of formal agreements, participating in public diplomacy initiatives, promoting confidence building measures and more. The paper also provides guidelines on how governments and organizations might use ‘new media’ to perform comparable roles.
