This brief looks at the effect which the 2011 Tsunami in Japan had on the country's cooperation with the US on humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR). It also looks at the further lessons in HADR the two countries could learn from their coordinated response to the 2013 Typhoon Hainan in the Philippines.
