This paper uses the context of Bangladesh to examine how external factors affect state fragility. To do this, the author first examines the literature on state fragility and provides a definition of this concept. He then examines how global security and economic structures affect Bangladesh to demonstrate the limitations of existing state fragility indexes. Overall, he argues that it is essential to include not only the internal factors, but also the external influences on a state when determining its fragility. And that existing fragility indexes should be reformed to reflect this.
