This paper examines the challenges that remote-control warfare poses to casualty recording practices. In particular, the author explores the impact the use and development of drones and autonomous weapons, the use of Special Forces, and the contracting of private military and security companies has on the ability of states, civil society organizations and others to scrutinize the actions of armed forces and record the casualties they cause. The author also provides recommendations on how national and international policy and practice should change to meet the challenges posed to casualty recording by remote-control warfare.
