This paper examines economic and political data from over 40 countries in sub-Saharan Africa for the period between 1982 and 2012 in order to determine whether democracy promotes economic growth. Overall, the authors find that democracy does seem to be positively associated with economic growth and that this association is even more apparent in countries that have remained democratic for longer periods of time.
