This fact sheet examines the main issues concerning the Middle East that will be addressed at the International Atomic Energy Agency General Conference in 2014 as well as how they have been treated in past meetings. These include the Israeli Nuclear Capabilities resolution, which calls for Israel to join the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty and the IAEA Application resolution, which calls for all states in the Middle East to accept the full-scope of IAEA safeguards. The authors also provide an outline of the Middle East Conference, which seeks the establishment of a Middle East free of nuclear weapons and other WMDs.
