This fact file provides an overview of Iran’s uranium enrichment facilities as well as the uranium mining and conversion facilities that support the country’s enrichment plants. The authors state that while Iran does operate two mines, the country does not have large domestic sources of uranium ore and relies largely on the uranium oxide it purchased from South Africa in 1982. They also suggest that Iran’s lack of access to high purity and large amounts of uranium ore could pose a significant constraint on its nuclear program.
