This paper argues that South Korea should, through multilateral cooperation with other countries, take the lead as a potential rule setter in international financial and monetary policy. The author provides arguments for the usefulness of multilateralism, presents developments in East Asian financial and monetary cooperation and then evaluates Korea’s multilateral diplomacy in these processes.
