13 Oct 2014

This publication overviews some of the key developments that occurred in 'distant warfare' between March and September 2014. They include 1) an increase in US and European special operation forces activities in Africa, 2) the growing importance of private military and security companies in Afghanistan and Iraq; and 3) persistent US attempts to establish cyber security norms, which have been fueled by Washington's disputes with China over cyber espionage.
