This paper examines the potential impact on India and African least-developed countries (AFLDC) of New Delhi’s new Duty-Free Tariff Preference (DFTP) scheme which will provide enhanced market access in India to exports from least-developed countries. In particular, the authors examine the potential gains that AFLDC countries could gain in two scenarios: 1) India’s partial liberalization of its tariff barriers; and 2) a complete liberalization of its barriers, with it offering duty-free entry to all imports, including items that are on its exclusion lists.
