This study examines the implementation and impact in Ethiopia of India’s Duty-Free Trade Preference (DFTP) scheme, which provides least developed countries (LDC) a duty-free and quota-free access to the country’s markets. The authors suggests that while the period that the scheme has been in place in Ethiopia does not allow for a meaningful analysis of its impact, an early assessment suggests that there are critical problems with the scheme that must be addressed if it is to reach its full potential. They also offer a number of recommendations on what India and LDC countries should do to make the scheme more effective.
