This study examines how, after the 1980s, Côte d’Ivoire entered a deep macroeconomic crisis putting an end to the flourishing economy that previously existed. Using statistical data from 1988 to 2008 on poverty and living standards, the authors set out what they evaluate to be the underlying causes of the country's economic decline.
