This paper examines Brazil's climate policies in the area of agriculture as well as how these policies may affect trade and how successful they have been in achieving public policy objectives such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions. In particular, the authors focus on Brazil’s Low-Carbon Agriculture Plan (ABC Plan) and the implementation of the related Program for Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions in Agriculture (ABC Program). They suggest that despite some initial difficulties and a relatively slow implementation process, these policies may be able to attain the goals of increasing agricultural productivity and efficiency while simultaneously reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
