This commentary discusses the political upheavals that happened in the Kyiv Opera House in Ukraine, particularly the eruption of April 2013 in protest against the dismissal of the artist Denys Matvienko. The author argues that this protest had a political message that proclaimed disgust with the country's officials and perhaps set the stage for the protests against the Yanukovych regime later on that year.
