Dec 2014

This paper discusses the UK's security ties with Bahrain and the agreement reached between the two countries in December 2014 over the lease of a naval base in Manama to the Royal Navy. The author also looks at 1) what this decision reveals about the UK's longer term security strategy; and 2) the country's stance towards the Gulf region prior to its Strategic Defence and Security Review (SDSR), which is due in May 2015.
