This report discusses the issue of ethnic minorities in Russia. The author reviews the field of minority rights research and its general trends in Russia and sketches a state-of-the-art summary. He does this by putting minority research into the context of ethnological research in general. The author also provides a short excursion into the juridical and political discourse on minority issues.
