This paper examines Russia's rejection of communism in the 1996 presidential elections and Boris Yeltsin's concomitant political reincarnation. It is based largely on journalistic and scholarly accounts augmented by personal interviews and discussions conducted by the author during May and June 1996 in Moscow and neighboring provinces.
