The articles in this journal address a range of local, national and interstate issues about democracy and human rights in Southeast Asia. Among other topics, the articles examine 1) the challenges of the uneven political development in Southeast Asia; 2) the discourses on human rights protection in Southeast Asia; 3) the accession of Myanmar to ASEAN and its effects on the emergence of fundamental political norms in the organization; and 4) ASEAN’s engagement with human rights and the creation of the ASEAN Human Rights Declaration in 2012. This issue also contains several book reviews.
