This paper analyzes 1) the numerous factors that have contributed to the neglect of the Gulf of Guinea’s maritime security, and 2) the regional problems that have emerged as a result. The text's author also gauges the effectiveness of the strategies and initiatives presently being pursued by the area's stakeholders to strengthen maritime domain awareness and reduce the levels of insecurity that have accumulated over the decades.
