This paper compares the roles South Korea and Canada play as 'middle powers' in the world today. More specifically, it argues that South Korea is leading a new wave of East Asian middle powers and that the nature of their power differs from traditional mid-line states, as exemplified by Canada. Once source of this difference is the changing use of soft power.
