This paper explores the current political crisis in Yemen. More specifically, it analyzes 1) the failures of the 2013-2014 Yemeni National Dialogue Conference; 2) the internal divisions that now exist within the country; 3) the meddling of outside powers, especially Saudi Arabia and Iran; and 4) the economic problems being confronted by both the Yemeni people and state. Finally, the paper argues that there will be no peace within the country unless the international community promotes a new national dialogue that fully accounts for the country’s complex politics.
