The articles in this journal address a range of local, national and interstate issues related to democracy and human rights in Southeast Asia. More specifically, they examine 1) whether national politics in Thailand can be described as oligarchic; 2) the reasons Indonesia is lagging behind in developing its geothermal power; 3) the politics and main political actors involved in Thailand's flood-related disaster relief and management; 4) local governance in Timor-Leste following the country's independence; and 5) Malaysia's progress towards creating a knowledge-based economy. The journal also contains two book reviews.
