This paper summarizes a workshop held to consider the development of a governance framework to regulate non-governmental environmental and solar radiation management (SRM) field experiments. More specifically, the workshop focused on two specific mechanisms that could be part of such a framework: environmental impact assessments (EAI) and research registries. The authors suggest that several conclusions emerged from the conference, including the point that the effective governance of SRM field research will require more than just EAIs and research registries.
