This brief focuses on the recently elected UK government's defense policy. More specifically, the author zeros in on 1) the form and timelines of the Strategic Defence and Security Review, which constitutes the UK's current defense policy review process; 2) the government's commitment to spend 2% of the nation’s GDP on the UK military until 2020; 3) its commitment to renew the Trident submarine-launched nuclear weapons system; 4) the ways ahead for the country's existing military operations, as well as its strategy for peace and security in Iraq, Syria and Libya; and 5) the government’s specific policies on special forces and remote control warfare.
