The author of this Kennan Cable contends that the term "Ukrainian Crisis," which has been used to describe the 2014 annexation of Crimea, the war in Donbas, and the resulting tensions between the US/EU and Russia, is a misnomer. The "crisis" is in fact part of a larger pattern of multiple conflicts have been brewing on Europe’s eastern edges for quite some time now, and which just haven’t attracted the attention or led to the responses that Ukraine has. The author concludes by recommending ways that Western leaders can use to bring about an end to the conflict in Ukraine and also help address the wider "crisis" in Eastern Europe.
