This brief explores the forces behind current UK security policy and how to adapt the latter to evolving circumstances. In order to help us understand London's defense and security policy better, the brief's author critically examines 1) the 2015 Strategic Defence and Security Review (SDSR), to include its results, the actors involved and the interests they pursued; 2) the UK's relationship with the US, which largely defines the parameters within which British strategy can and does operate; and 3) other key factors that drive Whitehall's security policies – i.e., public opinion, energy import dependence, corporate and financial influence, developments in the Middle East, etc.
