This commentary examines the Philippines' case against China’s maritime claims in the South China Sea, which is currently being adjudicated by an arbitration tribunal constituted under the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). As the text's author sees it, Manila has framed its case incorrectly, which could eventually lead to serious consequences.
