This article reflects on what can be done to repair the stagnant and strained relationship that exists between Washington and Bangkok. The new Trump administration, for example, could 1) have a senior administration official attend the cremation ceremony of King Bhumibol Adulyadej; 2) enable Thai officers to receive international military education in the US; 3) sell arms and ammunition to the Thai military and police, 4) begin bilateral trade talks; and 5) open strategic talks that center on the two countries’ treaty alliance.
