This student paper examines the history of the Indonesian internal security infrastructure and analyzes the possibility that the country can be made a part of a cooperative international internal security regime. The author concludes that the Indonesian government is burdened by a history of state terrorism to maintain order. According to the paper, the current threats include Islamic terrorism, separatism movements, sectarian violence and piracy. The author emphasizes that the internal security forces of Indonesia only recently became cognizant of the threat of Islamic terrorism.
