This paper focuses on the influence of China’s rise to the status of a world power on changes in the global system. The authors state that the consequences of this transformation are highly evident in Africa. The paper then discusses China’s economic and political interests in general and China's Africa strategy. The authors assert that China is unfamiliar with the notion of development policy as an independent policy field, but pursues an integrated, coherent approach that bundles the different instruments involved. The authors conclude addressing cooperation potentials for Europe and China in Africa.
