This paper examines the state and the development perspectives of the Southern African Development Community (SADC). The author argues that regional integration in southern Africa will only be successful if other goals are achieved, including political and economic stabilization of the region, mobilization of savings and investment, and a gradual integration of the region into the world markets. The paper concludes that the establishment of regional funds could contribute to economic harmonization and social cohesion in the SADC region.
