This paper discusses the concept of micro-insurance and evaluates its use in the Arab world, especially in Jordan. The authors argue that micro-insurance is a promising new approach to reducing the vulnerability of urban population groups that conventional social protection strategies find it difficult to cover. The paper concludes that the potential of micro-insurance in Jordan is nevertheless limited in outreach and coverage.
