This study examines the specific poverty profile of post-Communist Central Asia and considers the potential of the existing social policy institutions for improving human development in the region. The first part of the study discusses the issue of poverty and social policy in the broader development context. The paper goes on to address the transformation processes in Central Asia by focusing on the poverty reduction programs in the region. In the last chapter of the working paper, the author offers recommendations for the development policy for Central Asia.
