This study analyzes the performance of the Gezira Scheme, a program to foster cotton farming in the Sudanese state Gezira. The study identifies the institutional and infrastructural policy and management constraints on sustainable development of crop production in the Gezira Scheme. The authors also offer a qualitative assessment of the impact of government policies on crop outputs and prices, as well as on the competitiveness of cultivated crops in the Gezira region.
