This paper examines spill-overs and diverse linkages between transnational corporations (TNCs) and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in developing countries. The author discusses the development potential of these and presents case studies of successful TNC-SME linkages in three manufacturing activities, namely electronics hardware, automobile as well as apparel industry. The paper analyzes the determinants of linkage formation and technological upgrading and finally presents policies for enhancing the linkage between local SMEs and TNCs.
