This paper reviews the origins and purposes of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), an international agreement cum organization of 26 African state signatories. The author describes the APRM's peer-review process in its generic form, discusses specific elements of three reviews already completed for the countries of Ghana, Rwanda and Kenya, and finally draws conclusions from all the foregoing. He voices a concern that after the novelty of the APRM wears off, this could undermine the whole enterprise and in time derail it.
