This report analyzes US foreign policy and military operations in the Middle East, with a focus on operations in Syria and Iraq. The text’s authors explore the interplay between US efforts in the Middle East region and those of other international actors such as Russia, Iran and Turkey. The piece concludes with a number of recommendations for US policy makers, including: 1) generate and implement policies that support its clear and proactive strategic objectives; 2) recognize that Assad and the Russo-Iranian Coalition are destabilizing actors in the Middle East; 3) withstand the temptation to endorse diplomatic solutions that partition Iraq and Syria; and more.
