This paper argues that the UK’s security strategy needs to adopt a more comprehensive approach towards the threat posed by climate change. While the author notes that UK government agencies do acknowledge this threat to an extent, they only reference it as a ‘risk multiplier.’ However, he believes this is insufficient and that the country’s security strategy needs to take account of 1) the direct physical threat that climate change poses to the UK mainland and its territories; 2) the wider implications of climate change for the country’s security priorities, planning and capabilities, and more.
