This study discusses the revitalization program designed in the late 1990s by the Czech government. It addresses the widespread financial insolvency of many of the Czech Republic’s largest industrial companies and the need to bail out, recapitalize and privatize some of its largest banks. The author describes the creation of the program, the philosophy behind its design and some of the key strategies and techniques used to safeguard and generate value for the state. He also looks at the difficulties that occurred through attempting to address the political influence exerted by interest groups in the program structure.
