This paper juxtaposes three struggles from different periods of history in which the Bible's Book of Revelation had a part to play. It looks at one from the 1520s, one from 1534 to 1535 and a third one from the late 20th century. These examples are contrasted with the use made of the Apocalypse by two English writers from a century or so later whose use eschews violence and in which the Apocalypse is used to offer a critique of violence.
