This paper provides an oral history of family and social life in Cambodia during the reign of the Khmer Rouge in the 1970s. The author provides firsthand accounts of the impact of the brutal reign of terror and destruction of the lives of ordinary people in Cambodia during the time. The paper also explains that the long-term ability of families to resist the Khmer policies eventually helped contribute to the downfall of the regime.
