This paper presents and analyzes US President George W Bush's speech on 7 October 2001, announcing his country's attack on Afghanistan and Osama bin Laden's televised response. The paper outlines both perceptions and presentations of the situation since the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001, their justifications for the steps taken and their portrayal of the enemy, pointing to several parallels. The author criticizes the US government for attempting to censor the broadcasting of bin Laden's statements.
