This paper outlines a conceptual framework and a number of thematic and cross-cutting research issues in sexual and reproductive health, commenting on biomedical, epidemiological, social and behavioral issues. It develops a sexual and reproductive health agenda with special reference to individual situations, sexuality education, sexually transmitted infections and wanted and unwanted conceptions. Furthermore, the paper looks at the risks related to births and reviews the state of the literature. The authors argue that significant improvements in sexual and reproductive health clearly cannot be achieved by the health sector alone.
