This paper examines how archaeological finds were used as an apologetic tactic to defend the faith and to convert others to a losing literalist interpretation. The author further elaborates on how the perception of the Biblical world merged with the discursive styles of “Orientalism” and Christian apologetics and created the ideological bases for the Western colonization of the Near East.
