Given what is fast becoming a multipolar international order, this paper believes international institutions need to be ‘reinvigorated’, primarily to facilitate global peace and security. The United Nations, in particular, is struggling under the weight of an ever-expanding global governance agenda. To reverse the problem, UN members must recommit themselves to the organization’s crisis prevention and containment responsibilities.
