This publication identifies and analyzes the players and government organs that develop Japanese space policies. More specifically, the first section looks at the organizational structures and policy processes of 13 Japanese government organs, including 1) the Cabinet and the Cabinet Office (CAO); 2) the Cabinet Secretariat; 3) the National Police Agency (NPA); 4) the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), and 5) various ministries. The paper’s second section examines Japan’s current military space and space industry policies, once decade on from the coming into force of the country´s Basic Space Law.
