This briefing argues that the UK's Armed Forces are facing overstretch and receive insufficient funding as a result of current policy trends in government. The authors emphasize that this trend has the capacity to seriously undermine the morale and capabilities of the Forces. The authors offer the following recommendations with which the government can positively address these concerns: pull back from expensive, high-tech major war-fighting projects; concentrate on properly funding and supporting its serving personnel; and invest in the UK's exceptional skills for conflict prevention, peacekeeping and post-conflict reconstruction.
