This publication examines the invasion of Iraq and the consequences for democracy following elections in January 2005. First, the author focuses on whether democratic elections justified the invasion. Second, he discusses problems associated with the promotion of democracy through military invasion and occupation. Third, he highlights the prospects of the Iraqi government to resolve these issues. The report concludes that the future of Iraqi democracy depends on the realization of political legitimacy.
