This paper reveals key findings of the 2003 survey in Malawi on the demand and supply of democracy. The authors analyze survey data by focusing on the social, political and economic contexts that shape Malawian attitudes. They conclude that there is a high demand for democracy in Malawi, but its citizens are being supplied with less democracy than they demand.
