Publication

May 2006

The publication is concerned with multiple dimensions of citizen state relations in Africa. The authors focus on 1) how well citizens know and understand their political system; 2) how effectively the state is serving their needs; and 3) how corruption shapes citizen assessments of state legitimacy. The report argues that the public recognizes the need for citizens to be more critical of the state in principle, but not in practice.
